TEDTALK

Mission Accomplished!

Addressing the issue of closing the literacy gap has important namification for the success of disadvantaged children. The concept of learning to read and read to learn is of paramount importance. Participating in this program has given me much satisfaction. Engaging in a program where research is strong suggesting that the literacy gap can be closed is exciting. The hope is that many other schools engage in such programs. Engaging parents into the summer program would strength the home literacy connection.

TEDTALK - Summer Literacy Program Ready Set Go!

I can say I'm ready to create my TedTalk! My timeline outlines what I want to address, why it is important and what are the results. I have been researching on what makes TED talks successful as well. Delivery of your talk such as number of hand gestures,a variety of facial expressions and using different tones of voice are all crucial. Keeping your audience interested and stimulated is the key. The same goes for teaching!

Within the education community there has been interest regarding the impact of summer learning loss on student achievement and closing the gap for those with lower levels of literacy development. However, there has been little research done on this up until now. There is much information on the summer literacy gap and programs that may help fill this gap.  I had to fill in my own gaps on the nature and prevalence of this issue  in more detail. Come and explore a few YouTube and Vimeo videos with me.
